Kenzo TABE

Tabe, who grew up in Hiroshima, began presenting his work in the 1960s. Beginning with Mushroom Cloud Replication on the Ota River In Front of the Atomic Bomb Dome, an event held in the city in 1973, he went on to produce projects related to Hiroshima, including his 1982 work, ORANGE OPERATION, which predicted the moment the world would be obliterated by a nuclear explosion. Since the 1990s he has been dealing with environmental issues in his work, including the Stardust series in which discarded electrical appliance parts and scrap iron are reassembled and brought back to life. The works evoke the landscape of the city decimated by the atomic bomb and then revitalized.
