Oki Hiroyuki, Mitsumetsutsuyumi (150921 Hiroshima MIX) 2011–2015

In conjunction with the exhibition Collection Exhibition 2025-I, Oki Hiroyuki’s Mitsumetsutsuyumi (150921 Hiroshima MIX) (2011–2015) will be screened. This work combines footage that Oki had been recording since 2011 with material filmed during his visit to Hiroshima for the special exhibition Life = Work, held at our museum in 2015 as Part 1 of the trilogy 70 Years After the Bombing: Gazing at Hiroshima.

Oki Hiroyuki

Born in Tokyo in 1964. Oki began making films in the early 1980s while studying architecture in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo. In 1989, he launched the Matsumae-kun Series, a body of work centered on Matsumae Town in Hokkaido. He received the Special Jury Prize at the Image Forum Festival in 1990, and the NETPAC Award at the 45th Berlin International Film Festival in 1996. With camera in hand, Oki continually travels the world, exploring the interrelations of movement, life, and philosophy. His work reveals a dynamically networked and intricately structured world. His unique and poetic style—layering a vast number of images in rapid succession—has earned widespread acclaim both in Japan and internationally, and he has participated in numerous international exhibitions and film festivals.
