Special Exhibition
Perfume COSTUME MUSEUM

2025.2.22(Sat) — 6.1(Sun)

Perfume continues to perform at the forefront of the global stage. Three members of Perfume, a-chan, KASHIYUKA, and NOCCHi, sometimes stand in front of audiences of tens of thousands, and their beautiful and original costumes have accompanied them through their many challenges and joys.
This exhibition, consisting of approximately 180 carefully selected costumes, is Perfume's first large-scale costume exhibition, and was planned based on the Perfume COSTUME BOOK 2005-2020, Bunka Publishing Bureau, Tokyo, 2020. While tracing the chronological order of Perfume's costumes since their major label debut, the exhibition will also include costumes specially selected by the three members for this exhibition. In addition, dress patterns that have never been shown to the public before and other materials showing the source of inspiration for the designs will also be on display. This is an exhibition that reveals the charm of Perfume through the costumes that have been carefully preserved.

Chapter 1: A futuristic challenger

In 2005, Perfume made their major label debut with original costumes that expressed the futuristic feel of the song's concept. At that time, Perfume’s costumes were mostly based on ready-to-wear clothes, and stylist Ken Uchizawa brought out the charm of each of the three members through selection and arrangement. It was during this period that the basic forms of the designs (a-chan ‘knee-length’, KASHIYUKA ‘mini-length’, NOCCHi ‘pants style’) were proposed, which were to represent the individuality of each member. Fans were able to get the same clothes that Perfume's costumes were based on, and Perfume's costumes were also an item that allowed fans to feel closer to Perfume. Stylists Toshio Takeda and Shinichi Mita have been involved in costume design since the first Tokyo Dome concert in 2010, and the costumes of the three members have had a strong presence in the spectacular stage.

Chapter 2: Unstoppable Evolution

In 2012, Perfume, having established a solid reputation in Japan, embarked on a solo world tour. In 2013, Perfume was invited as a guest to the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, where they received high acclaim for their stage performance utilizing the latest video technology by Rhizomatiks, a group of creators. As Perfume's activities gained more and more momentum, costumes full of originality, incorporating striking geometric patterns and designs inspired by origami were created.

Chapter 3: Beyond the "future"

In the 2016 song “FLASH,” Perfume wears midi-length costumes, which they have never worn before, to showcase their powerful yet delicate dance performance. The hems and sleeves swayed with the choreography, bringing out Perfume's charm as a dancer.
From then on, costumes that made all three members appear to have the same silhouette and designs that expressed organic curves with pleats and draping were adopted, overturning conventional costume conventions.

Chapter 4: On Stage

Perfume values live performances where they can share the same time with their fans. In order for the three members to perform at their best, their stage costumes are designed to be both functional and effective. The costumes, which have been repeatedly prototyped and adjusted over time, are designed to ensure mobility and ease of movement, and can be layered for quick changes.
This chapter also includes a section showcasing memorable costumes chosen by each member.
