Joint Project of the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art and Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum
Exhibit Featuring Pieces from HPAM and HMOCA That Will (Maybe) Answer Your Art Questions

2022.10.29(Sat) — 2023.1.22(Sun)

This exhibition answers simple questions about art while collaborating with the works of the Hiroshima Prefectural Museum of Art (Kenbi) and the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art (Gembi). The Hiroshima Prefectural Museum of Art, which opened in 1968, has a large collection of modern art, with a policy of collecting works related to Hiroshima Prefecture. On the other hand, the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art opened in 1989 as the first public art museum in Japan to specialize in contemporary art. On the occasion of the museum's closure due to renovation work, we will propose new ways to enjoy it while comparing 92 works from different eras and genres from both collections. What is the difference between modern art and contemporary art? What are figurative and abstract? Don't say "I'm tired of seeing the works in our collection", but please enjoy the fresh exhibition space created by the encounter between the works of both museums.
