For the renewal of the museum in 2023, new pictograms were created by combining the shapes of the building designed by architect Kisho Kurokawa. We tried to create pictograms that did not depend on the conventional stereotypes of "female" and "male" to represent people, but we received some comments that they were difficult to understand. In the first session of mocaken, we will use this issue of pictograms at the museum as a starting point for a study session and roundtable discussion to learn about the various issues and research trends facing pictograms and to share opinions.

In "About pictograms: Part 1," we welcome researcher Mao Kudo. She focuses on the visual-cognitive characteristics of people with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders, and conducts research on the design of pictograms that respond to diversity. She will talk about the various issues that pictograms encompass, as well as her research and practice in designing inclusive pictograms.(Program will be conducted in Japanese)
