With the cooperation of SATOMACHI, a project that connects the countryside ("Sato") and the city ("Machi") in Hiroshima, we will hold an exhibition and workshops introducing the Children and 24 Seasons Karuta (available at MuseumShop "339") and SATOMACHI’s project, the Cicada Observation Session. The theme is “Seasons and the Transition of Life.” Let’s enjoy the changing seasons of Hijiyama together this summer through hands-on experiences and learning!

The exhibition at the “339” counter will change monthly to reflect the seasons:

July|The Changing of Life
August|The Changing of the Senses
September|The Changing of Hiroshima

SATOMACHI

A project that brings the blessings of nature found in the city into everyday life, helping to shape a sustainable future. Even without specialized knowledge or experience, we learn and grow together by connecting and blending “Sato” (countryside) and “Machi” (city), discovering the joy and richness of living in harmony with nature. Through activities like rice cultivation, campfires, and creative play set in public spaces such as Hijiyama Park, we explore and rediscover the hidden natural beauty right beneath our feet.

workshop

Express the four seasons in your own colors

In this workshop, we welcome graphic designer Haruka Kuga who created the illustrations and design for Children and the 24 Seasons Karuta as our guest instructor. Participants will express the seasons as they feel them, just like the illustrations of karuta cards, using color. From a palette of 100 small colored papers, you'll choose and combine your favorite hues to represent spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Together, we’ll compare everyone’s color compositions, sharing our different perceptions and expressions of the seasons, and enjoying the diversity in how each person experiences nature. The completed artwork will be framed in a paper frame, so you can take it home and continue to enjoy the beauty of the changing seasons in your daily life.
