Title
Rainbow of Greater East Asia
Artist
Tadasu TAKAMINE
Year

Takamine has used a wide variety of approaches and worked in diverse genres such as video installation, sculpture, and theatrical productions, relying on his own personal experiences and physical sensations to confront issues often hidden from view in our society. This work takes the form of a carpet, decorated with brilliant colors and featuring an ostensibly charming design with unidentifiable entities in wriggling motion. A linear pattern of the sun emanating rays, once used as the flag of the Japanese armed forces, is superimposed over it all like a covert crest. Depending on the angle of view and the direction of the light, this pattern produced by variations in the length of the fiber sometimes emerges sharply and sometimes becomes almost invisible.
