Work Description

Nam Jun Paik, born in Korea and known as “the father of video art,” was active mainly in Japan, Germany, and the US, and developed a technologically advanced practice that crossed over into other fields such as performance and music. In this work, 66 CRT televisions are stacked in a V-shape, displaying three different types of footage that produce a dizzying spectacle. The vast stream of images, which include the Atomic Bomb Dome, have had their shapes and colors altered, making it impossible to absorb clear information from them. The space flooded with images foreshadows possibilities for a future brought about by the progress of mass media and technology, while at the same time hinting at potential effects on human perception.
