Wada Reijiro, SCARLET RIVER, 2023

To mark the 80th anniversary of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Day (August 6), the Media Library of our museum will screen SCARLET RIVER, a video work by Wada Reijiro. This piece was created in 2023 along the Motoyasu River, which flows beside the Atomic Bomb Dome. It was also exhibited in our special reopening exhibition Before/After. The film was shot through double glazed glass filled with red wine, capturing a scarlet-hued scene. The cityscape reflected on the water gradually transforms into a vision evocative of the atomic bomb’s hypocenter.
