Work Description

Cho was born in Gangwon Province, South Korea and studied painting at Seoul National University. He has consistently engaged with the theme of memory through meticulously detailed paintings, based on old personal photographs, and installations that combine these with wooden frames, boxes, and everyday objects. This work was commissioned on the theme of “Hiroshima,” and is based on photographs of bombing victims. The portrait in the box is occasionally illuminated by a flickering light, and the box facing it, believed to have once been used as a bullet case, contains a blood-soaked canvas.
