Work Description

Known for spectacular projects involving gunpowder, Chinese artist Cai, who is carried out a large-scale outdoor project in Hiroshima’s Central Park while in Japan in 1994, igniting a 2,000-meter fuse suspended in a spiral by 114 balloons. His experiences in Hiroshima at the time led to a series of works with the theme of mushroom clouds, produced after he shifted his baseof operations from Japan to the US. This work documents the artist’s entering a nuclear test site in Nevada, becoming the first Chinese citizen to do so, where he staged a performance in which he produced a small mushroom cloud.
