Work Description

Yamamoto, who studied oil painting at university, was inspired by ancient buildings he encountered in Greece during travels in Europe, and since the 1980s has been producing three-dimensional works incorporating architectural elements and installations reminiscent of huge structures. His works are also characterized by splotches of intense, nearly primary shades of red, yellow, and blue that are scattered throughout. This work is derived from the House of Stringed Instruments series in which he was engaged at the time. It is composed of several varieties of small parts that were originally scraps from the production of another work, which he assembled on irregularly shaped panels and transformed into a work of art. The artist stated that he had the “recreation” of time in mind when creating this series.
