Work Description

King was born in Tunisia and majored in linguistics at university in the UK, but later aspired to become a sculptor and studied sculpture at an art university. His unprecedented style of lightweight sculpture, consisting of combinations of brightly colored metal parts, became an art-world sensation. By contrast, this work employs rusted iron, which gives it a hefty, massive look. While it is a geometric form without a clearly defined front side, the artist sought to maintain its frontality by curtailing its depth, with the effect that it confronts the history of the many nameless victims head-on.
