This exhibition presents works selected from the museum’s collection based on the keyword "layers." Each selected work embodies a stratified form of expression, be it the ideas at the core of the work or its medium or technique. By focusing on the manifold layers of these works’ composition and extracting the different meanings and roles of these layers, this exhibition encourages viewers to contemplate various forms of contemporary artistic expression.
Artworks are made from the layering of various elements, such as images, physically existing materials, and historical and cultural contexts. For example, there are works that form images and structures by layering various materials to which they assign different meanings or roles, and there are others wherein the concept of the artwork is deepened through one particular layer. In this exhibition, the effect that layered expression has on the creative act is demonstrated through six themes.
